Autism Answer: International Autism Docuseries FIX IT IN FIVE: Israel - a review

Lynette Louise holding her brain in Israel

People are talking about Israel. Many are passionate and opinionated.

I’m certain may of these people live in Israel or have spent a lot of time in that part of the world. I’m certain many know people who are living there.

I’m also certain many of these people have no idea, no experience, no ties to the place, yet are insistent on their opinions.

As parents, we’ve experienced this. As parents where there are uncommon challenges or disabilities we have especially experienced this.

This “people voicing opinions about our situation” thing,

These are things I’m thinking about after being given the gift that is season three of FIX IT IN FIVE with THE BRAIN BROAD – the award winning international autism docuseries that originally aired on The Autism Channel.

What a journey!

In season three we travel with Lynette Louise (The Brain Broad) and her crew to Israel.

One of the great pleasures in this show is the travel.

Season one – Kampala, Uganda

Season two – San Francisco, USA

Season three– Bet Shemesh, Israel

FIX IT IN FIVE is a special style of travel series because the show is ultimately about helping families with at least one member who is on the autism spectrum, who also has at least one other co-occurring challenge; it is a show about behavior and bioplay techniques that create positive changes regardless of culture or economic position. About the brain science that remains true and malleable regardless of religion or family history.

Hence, we are invited into a family home for five days. We are privy to intimate fears and hopes as well as daily routines. Traveling this way feels more real, more authentic, more like actually being in the place.

So, it was extra interesting to me, a person who has never been anywhere in or around Israel, to have access to the third season. To spend time with Shmuel and his big, beautiful family in their small apartment home.

It does not take long to adore this family. The first episode (released and available on YouTube) is a two-part episode, but we are captivated long before we’ve even begun to feel fully settled in our seats.

Shmuel is a thirteen-year-old autistic boy with an energy that lights up the screen, and he likes being on screen! His thrill at getting to know Lynette, and her joy in getting to know him, is a delight to witness. At the same time the love and struggles of mom and dad – both of whom are impressively candid and significantly different from each other – reaches into our hearts, validating our own experiences while teaching us to understand new ones.

As a full fledged #FixitinFiver myself, I was not surprised by how easy it was to fall in love with this family. It has happened every season. I was a little surprised, however, to notice how different it felt having a dad on the show. Seasons one and two were single-mom homes, but season three is a two-parent family with six kids. I freaking loved it! The addition of dad, who struggles with such different things than mom, brings an energy that wasn’t present in previous seasons.

It also brought a new style of questions and answers.

The lessons that Lynette teaches the family, and us as an audience, are presented a little differently in this season, which was unexpectedly wonderful. Unexpected because I already loved the way the lessons were taught in the previous seasons, but the change was refreshing.

Because both mom and dad are teachers, the lessons on behavior, brain science, and bioplay, are presented in a more familiar for learning style. It’s not drastically different, but it’s different.

Shmuel and his family practice responding differently to each other rather than scripting, in order to practice thinking differently and fostering a more real connection. They consider the concept of practicing social skills over academic learning. They are introduced to concepts that challenge traditions without disrespecting them. They adjust their behavioral environment.

Environment is everything. We learn this brilliantly in every season of FIX IT IN FIVE.

Our environment is made of many factors. Some we can control, others we cannot. This is the beauty of what we learn with Lynette in this international series. We learn it and we watch it. We see, by being there in the home with Lynette and each family, how the consistent concepts are adjusted to suit different needs and desires; different challenges and goals.

Ultimately, this is a powerful way to grasp the core concepts in Lynette’s teachings.

Everyone is different - every family, every individual, every environment.

The people and places change; the core lessons stay the same.

Please, if you have any interest in autism, parenting, and/or Israel, watch season three of FIX IT IN FIVE with THE BRAIN BROAD. Episode one is available now and a new episode will be released on YouTube each Monday in Sept 2025.

I won’t pretend watching will give you the right opinions to have about Israel or special needs parenting (wouldn’t it be neat if there was such a thing) but you will be more informed; less ignorant.

Along the way you will also be entertained, educated, and inspired.

Hugs, smiles, and love!

Autism Answer: World Autism Awareness Day with The Brain Broad - Bringing Us A Way To Learn & Connect With The World from Home

Quarantined and staying home, sheltering in place, not working or working with anxiety, the world is undoubtedly in a state of change. It is going to wake up different.

In the meantime, people like my mom, Dr. Lynette Louise (aka The Brain Broad), people who build their lives and livings out of helping others, are finding creative and powerful ways to reach out to their communities.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day. It is also my mom's birthday. And she has found a safe and wonderful way to celebrate it with you, me, and all our friends!

FIX IT IN FIVE with LYNETTE LOUISE aka THE BRAIN BROAD is her international docu-series, airing on The Autism Channel, highlighting and helping five different families, over the course of five days, in five different countries. Until now seasons one and two (Uganda and USA respectively) were only available to view for anyone with The Autism Channel or available to rent/own via Vimeo on Demand.

However, today she is releasing all five episodes of season one on YouTube. Fall in love with Milly, a single mom in Uganda, and her autistic daughter, Trisca! Get to know them, their unique challenges and brave willingness to learn on camera. Follow Lynette as she teaches and gives tools, learns and reaches out for support, nibbles on grasshoppers.

Invite the family into your home as they have invited us into theirs. Let's connect and learn and love together in this way! Yes, we are connected to everyone in this world and sometimes it is dangerous. But most of the time, when done with intention and acceptance and understanding, it is life enhancing and beautiful.

A great gift to you this World Autism Awareness Day, and a great gift to The Brain Broad on her birthday, is taking advantage of her offer: Watch FIX IT IN FIVE with THE BRAIN BROAD. Share it with your family and friends and watch it together while separated. Contact each other to discuss your favorite moments and lessons, and continue on to the next episode.

The world is going to wake up different. We can wait and see in what ways, or we can choose to do our part to shape it inclusively and sustainably.

For my mom's birthday I hope you'll join us in doing the latter.

However you choose to spend your time, I'm sending you love and virtual hugs this World Autism Awareness Day!!!

Hugs, smiles, and love!!!!

Here are the Playlists on her YouTube Channel.

While you're there, be sure to check out the ABCs of autism playlist. So far we are up to the letter C and all three short videos are freaking FANTASTIC!!!!!

Autism Answer: Loopholes for Mental Health!

Psst! I know a loophole!!

So, my mom, Lynette Louise ("The Brain Broad") is no longer taking new clients - although, after announcing to folks that April was the last month she'd be accepting newbies she did get a whole bunch of wonderful new families to work with! - but even though she won't accept new CLIENTS, she is still willing to come to your home and teach you and your network via the In Home Parent Program!

See?! Loophole!

Okay, not exactly a loophole. Having Lynette accept you as a client and come to your home for a three-day outreach, which is followed up with a lifetime of having her on your team, is different from the In Home Parent Program, where she comes to your home and teaches you and your group in a workshop style setting. Though, they are similar. And they're both life enhancing experiences. So you can see why I thought of it as a loophole.

But, wait! Now I know the loophole! She did say that she will happily mentor and consult with experts, teachers, therapists etc. for new clients. She would love to help your team understand and recreate (with your personal flavor and flair, of course!) the amazing results and successes she consistently has. So, maybe that's the loophole?

For goodness sake, I almost forgot to remember that she's still speaking, performing, and running workshops at all kinds of events! If the topic has any connection to the brain (and pretty much everything has a connection to the brain!) she has a talk or performance to share. Effective Leadership Event? Yup! She's your gal! Neurofeedback for autism? She's a top notch expert! Inspiration for parents and professionals? The Brain Broad has audiences on their feet! Understanding abuse and creating healthy relationships? Storytelling and brain science with Lynette gives you the tools! I could go on. So here's yet another loophole for learning with Lynette! Hire her for your event or be an attendee when she's presenting.

Oh, ya! And also you can still read her books, watch her videos, and - most importantly - watch her work with families around the world in her international docu-series FIX IT IN FIVE with LYNETTE LOUISE aka THE BRAIN BROAD - on The Autism Channel and via Vimeo On Demand. All of which she's going to continue to build, write, and release. So, in a way, you can invite her into your home with ease. Loophole!!

It turns out there are many mental health with Lynette Louise loopholes!

All these loopholes (and more) can be found on her websites.

Here, allow me to bring them to you:

Brain and Body - Mental health related - tons of neurofeedback info, specialist introductions,  and testimonials: www.brainbody.net

Letter from Lynette re: how she did her outreaches (use it to create something similar for your family: How I Work

Lynette Louise (The Brain Broad) - Lynette related - tons of info, videos, fun stuff, emotional stuff, mental health songs, personal stories, and links to pretty much everything she does. www.lynettelouise.com

FIX IT IN FIVE with LYNETTE LOUISE aka THE BRAIN BROAD: Seasons One (Uganda) and Two (USA) and trailer for the upcoming third season (Israel): FIX IT IN FIVE

So, if you're like me and you like loopholes, have fun picking your favorite! Sure, Lynette Louise isn't taking on new clients anymore but you can sorta be a new client no matter what my mom says!

Wait a minute! My mom LOVES loopholes! I bet these are all here on purpose. She wants you to explore these loopholes! Sweet!

Have a lovely loophole lovin' day, friends! tee hee!

Hugs, smiles, and love!!

Autism Answer: The Brain Broad Wants To Meet Your Family! (Five Days Left)

Not trying to rush you but -

Lynette Louise (aka The Brain Broad) is accepting new clients only up until the end of April!

You don't have to have your outreach this month, it can be anytime and anywhere, but you MUST contact her before the month ends!

Lynette works with families around the world, balancing brains and bringing play to your life in new ways. Autism, Parkinson's, Tourette's, anxiety, addiction, anorexia, phobias, and (recently) short term memory loss are just a few of the challenges she successfully treats. Anywhere in the world, any culture, any age, any belief system: she honors them all and is always effective.

"All members of a group lean on and reinforce each other so change requires a global approach … it is only when change is applied to the entire group that everyone grows happier, clearer and more capable." ~ Lynette Louise aka The Brain Broad

"So, if's she's so great, why is she only taking on new clients till the end of the month?"

Good question! Although you didn't have to ask it so cheekily. tee hee!
Anyway, she explains it best herself in this short Facebook Post

FYI: Just a reminder that I will stop booking new clients April 30th.
My commitment to families often spans a decade and to promise good work now that I am sixty the math says ... time to stop bringing people into the fold.
However I will still speak, write, teach and perform soooo not exactly retiring just closing one door to open others.
Connect ASAP though if you want my outreach services.
See? So don't be such a snot next time. Giggle!

I encourage you to call or email her. As I mentioned, you don't have to schedule the outreach right away. So call her and have a chat. Ask questions, explain your goals and hopes, get a price check.

Contact Lynette Louise: email - mom4evermore@juno.com /
Phone - 713-213-7682

Check out her HOW I WORK page for a fun rundown of how an Outreach with Lynette works.

Then run to your phone to contact her!

Autism Answer: Five Things I Learned (Or Re-Learned) Watching Fix It In Five

Five things I learned (or re-learned) while watching Season Two, Episode Three of FIX IT IN FIVE with THE BRAIN BROAD:

*Disclaimer: These are things I learned, not necessary things the show was intending to teach. As a writer and creator of content myself I know well that often the lessons learned are different - even contradictory - to the message I might have been meaning. I also know that it's surprising and wonderful when people learn things from my writing that is completely reflective of the audience themselves and not me. That, actually, is largely the point.

1) Process Out Loud: When playing with our kids/students/friends we can process the whys and whats of our actions out loud in order to easily explain - aka teach - our choices. It's become a habit for plenty of us to ask for our kids to do things, or to stop doing things, without breaking down our reasons for what we're asking. So all they know is we want this or don't want that, but they don't know why. And honestly? We, ourselves, often don't even know why! Processing out loud helps us figure it all out while teaching.

2) Be Comfortable Talking About The Uncomfortable: We gotta get over any yucky feelings we have when saying things like "don't touch your penis in public" because our discomfort teaches discomfort. Conversely, our comfort can teach comfort. If we are completely comfortable, then the statement plays its intended role; it becomes a simple, consistent, social skill lesson. For the person we are teaching and for all the folks nearby.

3) Value Giving Control: Most schools and programs value getting compliance from students and then offering small bits of control over their schedules and lives. Rewarding compliance with control. However, when we give more control of schedules and life choices to students in the first place, when we value giving them more control, we can ask for the compliance we hope for while giving them an important role in their own lives. We can teach the social skills we want badly to teach - and most people want to learn - while doing the things they are wanting to do. The lessons are in the moments, not the schedule.

4) Always Assume You Are Understood: There is an unfortunate trend among us to assume we can talk over our children's heads, or over the heads of folks who are socially challenged. Not cool, man. Always "Act as if, and then simplify." Act as if everything is understood, and then simplify the pieces and parts for clarity. Perhaps, by processing out loud! (#1)

"Act as if, and then simplify." ~Lynette Louise, "The Brain Broad"

5) You Are Never Done Learning: This isn't something specifically taught in the episode, this is something I learned by noticing my own reactions to things. Most of the situations and lessons offered in this show are familiar to me, yet I found myself surprised during moments of my own, well, surprise! With my brothers and my sons, I am comfortable with, and aware of, their unusual habits. I have practiced explaining and teaching to them (and have been honored to play a role in our growing healthy together!) and I am tuned into their energy. I can feel when their moods will shift. I can ride the waves of our moods without too much worry about where we'll end up. However, watching a new family always brings new habits and moods. And even though the new family is so very similar to ours, it always feels nervous and new to me. And I always have to learn what I already know all over again! Generalizing, it seems, takes practice. At least for me!

BONUS THING I RE-LEARNED:
6) I adore Jody, Xavier, and Gina.
I adore families. I adore how willing so many of us are to figure out a new way to teach and to love when we find ourselves in a story that asks for it. I adore watching The Brain Broad shine such love out of her eyes day after day after day.

*These five things I learned are from only one episode. And I could have written more. Seriously, friends, this show is a sparker of infinite thoughts, ideas, and actions. It can be seen (all episodes, and both seasons) for FREE on The Autism Channel. Visit my mom's site for more links and info: http://www.lynettelouise.com/fixitinfive/

Autism Answer: Playing My Role This Autism Awareness Month

Happy April, friends!!

Tonight is my youngest son's junior prom, tomorrow is my mom's 60th birthday and world autism awareness day, and this entire month is all about bringing answers, ideas, insights, and experiences from the world of autism to the larger public.

My youngest son didn't make eye contact for years, struggled seriously with sensory issues, and still works hard to handle his social strangenesses and misunderstandings.

My mom spent her childhood seeing sound as color, perseverating over fairness and prejudice, and then adopted several youngsters with similar issues as her own, knowing they could help each other heal. (And they did!)

Both my youngest son and my mom now reach out consistently and creatively to people who are misunderstood, alone, or otherwise hurting from an unbalanced brain.

My mom writes and performs songs that are addictive and lyrically inspiring, she writes articles and books that bring science and personal narrative together in poetic and clever ways, she speaks on stages for audiences that can't help but stand on their feet with emotion, she puts all of her resources and love and knowledge into her international docu-series FIX IT IN FIVE with THE BRAIN BROAD (on The Autism Channel) and she works intimately with families in homes around the world. This, my friends, is only a partial list of the actions she takes to reach out with guidance and understanding.

My son looks up to my mom in beautiful ways and plans one day to join her as a leader, speaker, and performer with a message.

I don't have any of the skills, history, or insights that those two have but I value, learn from, and honor theirs.

My work then, every April, is to introduce you to the wonderful life-changing work they do.

So now, I have the pleasure of introducing you to my mom: international autism and mental health expert, gorgeous grandma, and mom extraordinaire!

Lynette Louise site: www.LynetteLouise.com / Brain & Autism site: www.BrainBody.net

*Truly, an action-oriented way you, your friends, educators, news organizations, and neighbors can take advantage of Autism Awareness Month and my mom would be to rent or purchase one or two seasons (Uganda, USA, respectively) of FIX IT IN FIVE with THE BRAIN BROAD via Vimeo On Demand. Also, it would be the greatest 60th birthday gift you could possibly give my mom!*

SNEAK PEEK OF THIS EVENING: A photo of my son dressed in his prom tux!

Happy April, friends!!
I hope you find a similarly fulfilling and fun role to play this Autism Awareness Month!!
